It’s no surprise that Kyle Carlton won the Super Lawyer “Rising Star” Award in 2016 since some of his colleagues call him Superman.  He may not leap tall buildings or outrun a speeding bullet, but he can work tirelessly so his clients can sleep easy at night knowing their assets and legacy are safe.  “I like being the person that sits beside the client and works with them, taking complex sophisticated structures and making them simple and painless to understand.”

One of Kyle’s clients recently stated “Being a client of Kyle’s was a no-brainier and has proved to be one of the smarter choices I have made in my career. His expert knowledge executed with outside the box strategic implementation is one of many things that set him apart.”

Kyle represents clients in a variety of situations, including:  complex corporate structuring, asset protection and estate plan related matters with an emphasis on startup companies, family succession, wealth management, venture financing, nonprofit entities and international structures & transactions.

After a stint opening a family office for a wealthy North Dallas family, Kyle joined a large, generalized law firm to help in their corporate, asset protection and estate planning practice.  This experience coupled with his passion for entrepreneurship inspired Kyle to open his first law firm.  “I knew there was a better way to make attorneys’ offices more efficient and approachable for clients.  KB Carlton, PLLC seeks to shed the ‘traditional firm’ models in favor of aligned incentives, technological innovation and sound business principles.”

KB Carlton, PLLC was an instant success in their Plano location.  So much so, they have opened additional offices in Southlake and in Rockwall and plan to expand even further.  Their mission statement is simple, “We aim to be your source of expertise for all estate and business planning needs.”  But don’t expect the expansions to change Kyle’s vision.  He explains “We have big firm sophistication and experience, with a boutique members of a private club or bank approach.  Our clients are our friends.”

Kyle is not your typical attorney.  He enjoys merging entrepreneurship with both sound business practice and the law.  His client remarked, “Kyle Carlton brings the entrepreneurial edge to every project and opportunity that is fortunate enough to be on his radar screen.”

Kyle’s introduction to entrepreneurship started when he opened his first company while he was in college “Off the Map, LLC.”  A company that he successfully sold in 2004.  Today, he expands his passion for entrepreneurship by serving as the head of strategy and finance for a Dallas-based business incubator, Garage Works Strategic Partners™; a partnership of professionals with expertise in all areas of business planning (accounting, finance, legal, marketing, HR, etc). This partnership of Venture Catalysts™ serves as a “company that starts companies… and specifically companies that make a positive impact on their communities.”

It’s people and helping them solve problems that drives Kyle.  “I never had the ‘normal’ teenage job, I always worked in an office. My parents and family members would sit around the table talking about business problems and how to solve them.” Kyle explains.  “That’s why I try hard to help my clients get as bullet-proof as possible, as tax efficient as possible, and help prepare for and avoid the day of disaster.”

Kyle’s need to help extends from family and clients, to his community and generally those in need. He serves with a number of philanthropic, civic and religious groups around the world. Obviously, Kyle doesn’t slow down much. When he does, however, he enjoys reading, swimming, travelling, high adventure backpacking and treasuring his time with family and friends.

Kyle holds a BBA in finance from Texas A&M University (a top 15 public institution) where he graduated in the top 3% of all business students. Additionally, Kyle holds a Juris Doctorate of Laws and an MBA in strategy & entrepreneurship from Southern Methodist University (a top 10 entrepreneurship program nationally) as well as his MBA from SMU. Beyond his work with entrepreneurs, Kyle previously served as a voting member on the SMU Board of Trustee’s endowment investment committee (charged with overseeing SMU’s 1.3-billion-dollar endowment).

While Kyle primarily focuses on entrepreneurial and estate planning law, he also advises clients on a broad range of legal and business matters, including:  estate disputes, probate proceedings, real estate transactions, financing, and loan workouts.

His incredible diversity of clients includes anyone from angel investors and entrepreneurs to ranchers and CPA groups. His clients span a broad array of industries including: technology, energy, commodities, real estate, banking, manufacturing, transportation, advertising & marketing, and retail sectors.

Kyle Carlton is truly a unique individual.  His passions drive him to solve problems and help others.  He does this by thinking outside the box to strategically come up with something that will give his clients peace of mind. When asked what his greatest accomplishment was, Kyle simply replied, “Serving my clients, taking care of my employees, and loving my family.”  The words of truly a superman.
